|Magic! - a multimedia workshop for children
A class of 25 students at Maria Montessori School Hausen in collaboration with Akademie Schloss Solitude
March 28th – April 1st 2011 (8:10 am – 12:30)
Children today consume a large quantity of new media (computer games, internet) and conventional electronic media (TV, cinema). This consumption is rather passive, and often less critical. By teaching children how to work with media hands-on as a tool of creative output, the workshop aims to help develop their media literacy.
The workshop aims to give children an opportunity to create “magic” and to understand its makings by working with simple principles with digital video camera. The two main principles used in the workshop are perspective and green screen effect.
- view and perspective
- animating an object with stop motion technique with digital photo camera
- creating illusion of flying working with perspective
- creating illusion working with green screen effect
At the end of the workshop, the children have produced a short film combining all the methods they learned during the workshop. These short films were presented at a screening event where their families and friends were invited.
